Rei Harakami, River: Nike+ Original Run
by Daniel Finn
I've decided I'm going to start running, which is probably the last thing anyone expected from me.
This time I’m heading to Japan with Rei Harakami’s River.
Harakami was a Japanese electronic musician known for gentle, melodic electronic music, which already makes him a pretty unusual choice for a running soundtrack.
River was released in 2007 for Nike+ Original Run and runs for around 36 minutes.
Harakami approached the idea differently from the others. He imagined putting on your shoes and heading towards a river, somewhere you could keep moving without traffic lights getting in the way.
You could walk, start running when you felt like it, or stop when you wanted.
I like that there isn't much pressure built into the idea. Most of these releases are trying to keep you moving for 45 minutes, while Harakami seems much less concerned about how fast you get there.
So this might be the most relaxed run of the series so far.
Which sounds perfect for me.
