A-Trak, Running Man: Nike+ Original Run
by Daniel Finn
A friend messaged me after the last one and said running might not be the best idea for someone my size and that skipping might be a better option.
I’m also considering swimming at this point.
Anyone have any tips?
This time I’m putting on A-Trak’s Running Man.
A-Trak had already built a reputation as one of the world's leading DJs before making this Nike+ Original Run release. He won the DMC World DJ Championship as a teenager and later became known for combining hip-hop, electronic music and turntablism.
Running Man was built specifically around running, so the DJ approach makes sense. Rather than feeling like a traditional album, the mix keeps everything moving from one section into the next.
There’s a lot more hip-hop influence here than in some of the other Nike releases, with electronic production sitting alongside scratching, samples and heavier beats.
I’m starting to realise the interesting part of this series is how differently each artist interprets the same basic idea. Everyone has been given the same problem: make roughly 45 minutes of music people want to run to.
A-Trak's solution is basically to turn the whole thing into a DJ set.
So let's see whether I can keep up.
